Why do some people ascribe to “minimum necessary” when it comes to conversation?
Question by When Will This Recession End: Why do some people ascribe to “minimum necessary” when it comes to conversation?
The world seems to be divided up into two sides of people – the kind who talks – asks questions, gives answers and believes in open conversation and the kind who don’t talk – those who just believe in giving brief answers. Let me illustrate the kind of conversation I’m referring to:
Him: Hey.
Her: Hey, what’s going on?
Him: Nothing.
Her: How was your day?
Him: Good. How was yours.
Her: It was pretty good. My boss gave me some acknowledgement on a project I’m doing and I really felt good about that. Oh and I got an unexpected check in the mail from an overpayment I’d made to one of my credit card companies so that made my day!
Him: Cool.
Her: So, what’s going on with you?
Him: Same old, different day.
Her: Oh, ok. Are you going out tonight?
Him: Don’t know yet.
Her: Ok, I’m thinking of going out for Chinese food later then meeting up with Mary later for a drink.
Him: Cool.
Her: *crickets*
Him: Well enjoy your night out.
Her: Ok……
This just gives you a sense of what I’m talking about. This conversation is taking place between a between a man and a woman who have known each other a very long time and are very good friends. This is not a “man of few words” thing, there are alot of women who believe in that “minimum necessary” rule as well. What is that?
What is the psychology involved about some people who just don’t believe that you should go into alot of information in conversation even with familiar people. Why do some even feel a question such as “What are you doing today” as intrusive? Strangers, yes, I do get that but why do some people even get offended when questions are asked that are intended to be very conversational and not out of nosiness or to stalk.
You would be surprised how many people there are like that. Are these types super-guarded with their words for a reason? If so, what is the reason? Why do some just go through life with a “none of your business” attitude even with people they have close friendships with? What are some things that are simply none of anyone’s business and what is so intrusive about asking a person what their plans are for the evening? If you are like this tell me why you are like this and please don’t say “none of your business”. (lol) Serious responses only please, thanks.

Typically one would call that a “spartan” dialect, as after all the spartans did used to talk to one another in that way apparently.

Q&A: “Culinary Field..Vs.. Spa Industry/Business?” Why/Why Not?”>>See Below?
Question by Leah: “Culinary Field..Vs.. Spa Industry/Business?” Why/Why Not?”>>See Below?
” Background Information>>”….I am a middle aged single woman. I have worked most of my adult life in the food industry in some area or another. Bakery was the hardest. I was going to try something unrelated… towards attending school for Esthetician..to work in a Day Spa.. however.. reading many blogs.. many are not finding work. The school cost 10 grand.. and you work on straight commission, It takes years they say to build a client book.. and I wouldn’t be able to go it alone .. until I get enough money and clients to do so. Besides that.. not finding work may help me to go homeless.lol..Well.. could. The Spas expect you to bring in all the work.. and yet..your not allowed to bring the clients with you when you leave. I thought this would be less strenuous work physically on me and my body.. however.. if I can’t find work or much of it.. the school won’t want to wait for re paying the loan that long. This woman in CA said on a Spa Blog.. that she can’t find work and wish she never did it now.. because she is in debt. However.. I read that the spa industry has not been affected that much or hard yet. But.. that must mean those already in it.. not recent grads.. At a Community College here .. they have a program for one year for a food production or prep.. towards becoming a cook, assistant cook or grill cook.. When I worked at a hotel these people made a decent.. wage and received benefits.. working nights .. is good because I am a night owl.. I would have a steady stream of income.. which would allow me to continue my schooling during the days.. for an associates in Culinary. What do you all think .. why / why not?
Also.. They say food and medical are the two main areas in any recession that would never suffer because people need both areas … and food is a necessity.. luxury services are not..
Should I not allow my middle age to deter me? I love to cook.. I am a foodie.. I am a good cook.

I would invest in becoming a yoga teacher. $ 2k to get certified. You’ll get paid to stay in shape and you’ll find demand increasing as the population ages.

Small business banking/financial questions?
Question by asminty: Small business banking/financial questions?
I’m starting my own business as a Pure Romance consultant, which means that I will be buying products from the company and sell them directly to women for a profit. I will not be an employee of Pure Romance, and there will be no other employees in my small business.
I have the sales side figured out, but what do I need to know from the business side? My plan now is to open a separate free personal checking account for my business transactions, because the business accounts I’ve researched have fees, minimum balances and transaction limits, and until I know how the business will do I don’t want to sign up and get stuck with fees because I’m under- or over-performing. So on this account I will deposit my initial investment [which I have in savings now], and from there it will be used for purchases from Pure Romance, gas and other deductible expenses, and all of the company’s income will go into that account. At least from what I understand it makes the most sense to stick with a free personal checking account? Are there benefits to the actual business account that I’m not considering?
I plan to sit down with a CPA in the next few weeks to figure out exactly what would be a deductible expense…gas obviously because the job requires me to drive to women’s houses all over the city, but what about oil changes and other car maintenance, and even like clothes and makeup so that I can look the part of the sophisticated 21st century sexually liberated woman?
And how do I pay myself? Would I be allowed to just transfer money from the “business” account to my personal as I choose, or do I have to give myself a salary?
anything else I should know?

You have the right approach. Definitely, keep business and personal revenues and expenses separate.
Concerning paying yourself, anytime you pay yourself money, it is called a “draw”. (Your CPA will explain this to you.) You may take a draw anytime you want.
Concerning expenses, I have found that taking the mileage deduction is essentially better than tracking gasoline, oil changes, etc. To get the mileage deduction (which is about $ 0.50 / mile), you need to keep a journal of where you went, why you went there, and how many miles, etc. (Your CPA will give you better instructions.)
Concerning other important considerations, if your income is substantial, you may want to set up a 401k / profit sharing plan for yourself. Fidelity Investments “Self-Employed 401k” is a fine option, and it’s free.
Concerning quarterly estimated tax payments, you will need to consult with your CPA at least 4 times per year to make sure you pay the correct estimated tax each quarter. You may want to hire a bookkeeping service, if your recordkeeping becomes cumbersome. (Bookkeeping services charge about $ 20 to $ 40 per hour; anticipate 2 hours per month — which will save you expenses on your CPA, who is probably charging you $ 150 / hour.)

Why do women give hints?
Question by Lol: Why do women give hints?
Girls don’t seem to understand that guys are oblivious to hints.
If you want a guy to know that you’re interested in him, then tell him. Plain and simple. It makes it easier for everybody, and is a more mature way of “conducting business”.

MEN PLS: Why does my husband flirt on business trips? Does that mean he’s cheating?
Question by CEO_Wife: MEN PLS: Why does my husband flirt on business trips? Does that mean he’s cheating?
My husband’s cell phone recently “dialed” home while he was on a business trip – accidentally. I heard him flirting & chatting with women in a bar. MEN ONLY — does this mean he’s cheating on me, or intends to? He claims it was totally innocent & “business” related. I feel so betrayed & sick. We have a great relationship and great sex-life. I always tell him how proud I am of him. I treat him like the wonderful man I ‘thought’ he was.

Flirting does not have to lead to cheating. Some of us do it to get a quick ego boost.
We like to know that we still got it

Adult women only please?
Question by snaggledorf: Adult women only please?
I have certain questions I would like answered. But when I ask my wife she makes that angry little face where her eyebrawls bump together. And responds with, “your being a smart a@@ aren’t you?
1) What’s with the touchy, feely, thingy? Men have a three foot buffer zone around their bodies that they don’t want violated. So how come when your fella’ is reading his book or worse, watching “Predator”. You wanna jump right there beside him and start cuddling, and talking? The first thing that goes through our heads is “oh my god, why is she violating my three foot buffer zone”? Which leads me to question #2.
2)What’s with the talking? If we wanted to talk, we would go hang out with the guy’s. Don’t ask a guy what he’s doing either. Because he’ll tell you……..”minding my own business”. Which leads me to question #3.
3)Why are you so interested in everyone else’s live’s? Even though we do care about the well being of people, we don’t care to the point of missing “Predator”.

Am I a bad person because I watch porn?
Question by : Am I a bad person because I watch porn?
I used to think that porn was a sin, and so I never watched it. However, I have given up Christianity because I am convinced that it’s false, so now I do indulge in porn.
I still do truly believe that pornography is wrong and degrading and dehumanizing to women, but I keep watching it and “taking care of business” because it gives just me so much pleasure that I don’t want to give it up. Does this make me a bad, immoral person?
